Trump: “Very Good Talks with Iran”… Hints at Progress in Nuclear Negotiations
“We had very good talks with Iran, yesterday and today.”
On May 25, at Morristown Airport in New Jersey before boarding his private jet, former U.S. President Donald Trump responded to reporters' questions by indicating that progress had been made in the ongoing nuclear negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.
Trump stated, “I have a feeling that we’ll be able to share good news over the next couple of days,” and assessed that “significant progress has been made.”
He also emphasized his hope for an agreement that would “avoid a military strike on Iran,” adding, “I don’t want to see bombs dropping and people dying.”
His remarks came after the fifth round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks, held on May 23 in Rome, Italy, under the mediation of Oman. Following the negotiations, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying that “some progress was made, but no decisive outcome was reached,” and expressed hope that “the remaining issues will be clearly resolved in the coming days.”
Trump reiterated that the negotiations were moving in the right direction, again stating, “I have a feeling that we’ll be able to share good news over the next couple of days.”
Meanwhile, even while engaging in talks, Trump has maintained a hardline stance by tightening sanctions on Iran’s crude oil exports.
